by Everyone seemed to be in a crabby mood today, so I decided we needed some thing fun and messy to do (outside of course.) What could be more fun then baking soda and vinegar? For me, not much, but adding some color to the mix couldn't hurt!
So I whipped up some Fizzy Sidewalk Paint! It is super easy, so you can definitely do it too!
To start with you need to mix together your naking soda, cornstarch, and hot water. All of my amounts are just approximation. More water will make it thinner while more baking soda will make it fizzier.
Next, I divided it into 3 parts and mixed in red, blue, and yellow food coloring. Now if you let it sit it separates a bit, and when you mix it, it reminds you of oobleck.
Then I turned the kids loose with paintbrushes. Even my little guy thought it was great fun to paint.
After they have painted, fill spray or squirt bottles with vinegar and let the fun begin! They would paint and spray and paint and spray. If your kids aren't quite strong enough for a spray bottle, you could use a small squirt bottle or an eye dropper.
They were so busy painting with it, that even when the little one accidentally knocked over the cup of blue paint there were no tears. The girls just started spraying and spraying, realizing how much more of a mess they could really make.
So ALL the colors got dumped and sprayed. And the clumps in the bottom of the cup (which basically were colored oobleck) got dug out and sprayed.
They sprayed and splashed and sprayed some more until they were out of vinegar.
Then my oldest wanted to see what affect water would have she always wants to know what adding water will do. So she filled the bottle and splashed it on.
After the splash, she looked down, declaring, "It made a hole!" So there was more splashing, and most of the paint was washed away! Well at least from the sidewalk.
