If you have a beginning reader in your life (or will in the near future) this set of readers is a wonderful addition to your curriculum! Enchanted Homeschooling Mom has put together 20 unique stories with adorable pictures that also incorporate the First Grade Dolch Sight Words as well as Reading Comprehension.
The series is interactive, with your reader cutting and gluing the sight words in as they read the story. The act of making the words helps cement the words in their mind more then just being told the word repeatedly. There is also a place at the end of each story to practice writing the sight words.
The comprehension part comes in with a little list of questions at the end of each story. After your child reads the story you ask the questions. If they can't answer read the story again; simple.
As I said before these are unique stories with wonderful themes (from farmers to fairy tales) and adorable pictures. Who can resist a story called "A Wookie Smells a Cookie?" My girls don't really even know what a Wookie is, but they thought it was cute, especially when Daddy likes it too.
The stories are also fairly short and therefore not too intimidating for those more resistant readers.
Included with the readers is a Go Fish Game, a Board Game, and Flash Cards for a Word Wall!
While this doesn't replace your reading curriculum, it is a great addition for some extra sight word and comprehension practice.
Enchanted Homeschooling Mom has over 150 adorable printables available, from unit studies to supplements for various subjects. Her collection grows as her children do, and for a small fee of $15 you can get access to all her printables for LIFE!
